Patient Documents

Safety is our top priority. In order for us to maintain a safe environment for you, it is important that we know your medical history (including allergies and all medications you are currently taking) as well as any other information you feel is pertinent to your health. It is also important that you take part in the decisions made regarding your care. Please do not hesitate to let us know if you do not fully understand your condition, the treatment that has been ordered, and/or the plan of care your provider has established for you. Keep in mind that your condition, as well as the medications you are taking while in the hospital, may alter your ability to walk and stand safely. If you feel weak, dizzy, light-headed, or unsteady, remain seated or lying down, use your call button, and wait for assistance. Always follow your provider's instructions for staying in bed and getting help to and from the bathroom. Wear slippers with nonskid soles when not in bed. Keep objects like your phone, call light, and personal items within reach.

Patient Responsibilities

Patients have the responsibility to:

  • Provide correct insurance information.
  • Check preauthorization requirements of their insurance plan.
  • Be accurate and complete in giving medical history.
  • Ask questions and take part in healthcare decisions.
  • Follow the treatment plan agreed upon.
  • Advise WHMC management of any problems or dissatisfaction with services provided.
  • Be considerate of the rights of other patients and hospital staff.
  • Inform WHMC of the existence of, or changes made to, their advance directive.

Telephone service

Outgoing calls

  • To place a local call, dial "7," followed by the telephone number.
  • To place a long distance call, ask your nurse to help you.

Incoming calls

  • Phone calls are transferred to inpatient rooms.
  • Your direct dial phone number can be found on the whiteboard in your room. You may share this number with your friends and family.

Internet service

Wireless internet is available in our facility. To sign on, the username is whmcguest. The password is wh1tman.

Meal information

Unless your doctor has indicated that you need to be on a special diet, you can select your own meals daily. Menus are located in each patient room. If you miss a regular meal because you are out of your room for tests, talk to your nurse about alternate meal arrangements. If your guests bring you food, please let your nurse know. Some foods may interfere with your physician's plan for your care.

Let the dietitian, dietary staff or your nurse know if you have food preferences based on personal, cultural, religious, or medical reasons. We will make every effort to honor your choices but occasionally may have to make substitutions.

Meal delivery times

  • Breakfast: 8 a.m.
  • Lunch: 12:15 p.m.
  • Dinner: 5 p.m.


Should you have any concerns about the care or services you receive while in our hospital, please contact our Administrator at 509.397.3435 ext. 365. You also have the right to contact the Washington State Department of Health at 800.633.6828.

Personal items

You are encouraged to bring only essential items to the hospital, such as sleepwear and toiletries. Large sums of money, keys, jewelry, personal papers and other valuables should be left at home. For safety reasons, do not bring TVs, radios, hair dryers or other electric devices.

The Lost and Found is located in the WHMC Business Office. The hospital is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

To keep personal items secure, you should:

  • Keep eyeglasses and hearing aids in a case in the top drawer of your bedside table when you are not using them. Upon request, your nurse can provide and label a clear, plastic storage bin for smaller essential items. You may take the box home with you upon discharge.
  • Keep dentures in a denture cup in the top drawer of your bedside table. Do not place dentures on your food tray or on the bed linen.
  • Keep clothing in your room closet, bedside table, or suitcase.
  • If you do have personal valuables (jewelry, watches, money, credit cards, etc.) that need to be secured, please notify your nurse.

Discharge Information

Your healthcare team will work to help you recover as quickly as possible.

When your doctor determines that your health is adequate to leave the hospital, you will receive detailed information about discharge procedures and planning. If you have any questions about any aspect of your discharge, talk with your nurse or physician.

Discharge times are coordinated between the physician and the discharge planning team. We will provide assistance if you have special discharge needs such as transportation or accommodations at another healthcare facility.
