Palliative Care

Palliative Care is an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing the problems associated with life-threatening illness. It aims to prevent and relieve suffering by means of early identification and impeccable assessment and treatment of pain and other physical, psychosocial and spiritual difficulties.

Palliative Care vs. Hospice

Palliative care at Whitman Hospital & Medical Center is for any patient witha chronic disease, whether in the beginning or final stages. Services, including pain and symptom management, curative and end­-of-life care, can be provided.

Comfort Care Cart

Items available on the Comfort Care Cart include:

  • Magazines, books, hymnals and religious readings.
  • Notebook, pens, coloring books and crayons for children.
  • Café menu including local hotels, restaurants, etc.
  • Universal cell phone charger.
  • Toiletries.
  • Locally pieced quilt.
  • Disposable camera.
  • Radio, CD and MP3 player.
